For those of you who went from book to book without pause, you’ll find there is little time to breathe in between scenes. The battle against the immortal gods plays out as expected and we learn what happened in that last scene.

The switch in point of view between the two leading characters falls to the wayside. We see the world predominantly through Kyder’s eyes, his truth, and how he plans to reset the balance and save Rune’s people.

Elegy of the Void is a quick read that leaves you guessing to the end. As always, Scot is the mistress of misdirection and literary sleight of hand. Readers will be richly rewarded with a story that closes all loose ends nicely, and answers some questions we never knew to ask.

  • Evelyn Reads Eye of the Brave

Like the preceding books, Eye of the Brave focuses on Rune and Kyer, with alternating chapters covering their perspectives. By now,  readers are familiar with the rich world and characters that Zawad offers.

This is where Scot dives into the unknown, introducing us to the realm of Digard, home of the patron gods. This is a world alien to our own and eternal, which leaves certain characters wholly unprepared for the experience.

Throughout the first part of the book, there is a lingering sense that we are approaching the bitter end. The fires cool, the spirit weakens, their strength wanes and affairs are settled.

That changed in tone, causing us to wonder if Scot has rewarded us with a fairy tale ending. Of course, we should know better by now.

Eye of the Brave is a fast read that further delves into the dark portrait the author painted for us. With a rich assortment of characters and tragic backstories, Scot sets the stage perfectly for the last book in the series, Elegy of the Void.

Like its predecessor, this first-person work follows two characters. A young man and woman who navigate through the obstacles of a post-apocalyptic Earth. Opposites of one another, their actions shape events of two major factions, locked in a war against gods.

Their interactions define this book, how their isolation and proximity shape them. The juxtaposition brought forth in the novel is particularly well-done and poignant. It reveals how interconnected the characters are, even if they refuse to see it.

The storyline richly rewards readers. The story develops not only the characters, but the realms and conflict itself. Despite a huge geopolitical shift, it will leave you wondering if humanity is up to the challenge.

Echoes of Blood is a fast-paced, action-packed story that is sure to leave you guessing. This book is followed by, Eye of the Brave, available now. Highly recommended!

The author brings forth a world cursed by humanity’s unquenchable thirst for violence. In their most recent war, most of the Earth is rendered uninhabitable, the poles are reversed, and a rift to another dimension is opened. The latter event unleashes gods and magic onto our lands, imbuing powers to humanity based on the season of their birth.

In this post-apocalyptic hellscape, we are introduced to two main characters who are polar opposites of one another. This theme flows out beautifully from out of the prose, and Halo Scot writes each character in first-person form.

Over the span of a decade, you’ll see them grow, adapt to evolving dangers, and find their niche in this dark world. Despite their stark differences, they find themselves inexplicably linked, which comes into play as the story develops.

Edge of the Breach is a wonderfully crafted novel that offers a taste of what is to come. The book itself is an easy read, with short chapters that can be consumed in bite-sized chunks. For what happens next, the reader will need to progress in the series, with hints of a war between immortal Gods.
