Man at War – Excerpt No. 229

The men at this station were visibly fatigued, bordering on both physical and mental exhaustion. Yet they did their duty, and even rushed to assist the corporal Marc had been walking with.

Those here experienced the war second hand and were entirely unable to alter its course. At least a soldier with a weapon has the illusion of being in control of their fate.

Marc handed the weapon to someone from the same regiment and carried on. Murphy caught up, and they walked on in silence.

Picture of an aid station near the front tend, white tent is damaged and dirt, bandages, blood, helmet and gear lying around. Medical staff look exhausted. Clothing and style appropriate for 1915 for No Man Land at night.
