Man at War – Excerpt No. 262

“You three,” Murphy said. “With me.”

“Belay that,” Marc said. “Have them prepare witness statements.”

Marc rarely overruled the Warrant, dragging three soldiers on the verge of panic back into the fray would not do them any good.

“Sir?”

Marc pointed to himself and Aelred to indicate they had no need for a security detail.

“Yes, Sir,” Murphy said. “You heard the Colonel, off you go.”

Three British officers in World War I-era uniforms stand in a muddy battlefield. An older officer on the right, smoking a cigar, appears to be giving orders to two younger officers who listen attentively. The background shows barbed wire, a barren tree, and a desolate war-torn landscape. The black-and-white image has a vintage photographic border.
