All around him he could hear the water lapping against the exterior walls. There was also the distinct scent of brine in the air. He never mentioned this facility being an island.

The idea had merit. While vampires did not need to breathe, a remote island almost guaranteed that the sun would get to them before they reached safety.

He walked over to Aelred and hugged the man. This was one of the rare opportunities they had to shed their military personas.

“Quite a find,” Marc said.

“It is,” Aelred said. “They decommissioned this facility about a year before the war broke out. Since it served as a prison, we felt it was the perfect place to implement certain clauses to our war measures directive.”
