Man at War – Excerpt No. 295

“I think Marc has done more than enough to redeem himself in the eyes of our society,” Aelred said. “Certainly more than your inmates.”

“That’s besides—(the point.)” Janus said, ever the pragmatist.

“Fine,” Marc said. “You’ll need to take over at No Man’s Land and do my dirty work… Have any of you been in combat?”

He knew the answer just by the way these men held their weapons. Even green troops know better.

“Have you ever seen life extinguished from the eyes of a man solely because he wears the colours of their country?” Marc asked.
