Before getting into position, Marc and Murphy picked up handfuls of loose mortar and bricks and spread it over the stairs. Right behind him he caught a sound reminiscent of sandpaper rubbing against stone.
It was not much, but to him it may as well have been an incensed mob with torches and pitchforks. He turned around quicker than the eye could see, making it seem as though there were two of them.
Murphy reacted visibly to Marc doing so, but in slow motion. By the time his second realised what was going on Marc fired off two rounds.
The first one struck the lead vampire in the shoulder, while the second ended up with a hole through his neck. That left another two vampires at the entrance.
