The Spy Who Loved Eveline – Excerpt No. 67

The image changed again, showing the woman again. This was clearly a mugshot, and by the looks of her she was barely aware of where she was. Those green eyes were glassy, vacant, eyelids droopy, and face neutral. That bruising and torn skin around her left cheek was also very telling.

“She has an extensive criminal record, both before and after reaching the age of majority,” L said. “Prostitution, solicitation, living off the avails of prostitution, public indecency, petty theft, and the occasional assault charge. She spent a year in juvie, but that did not alter her trajectory.”

Square vintage-framed mugshot. A young woman with wet dark hair and vacant green eyes faces the camera, eyelids drooping, expression blank. Torn, bruised skin covers her left cheek. Grey height-chart wall behind her. Booking-room light, no name plate.
