Man at War – Excerpt No. 127

Had Marc been in touch with his emotions he might have actually panicked. Contrary to Drusilla’s firmly held beliefs that vampires were superior to all creatures in existence, that was not entirely true. There were things out there that even vampires avoided. It’s why our kind keeps to the cities instead of roaming the countryside.

He had never seen a werewolf before, but others of his kind spoke about them as though they were the boogeyman. They were said to be tall, wolf-like creatures that could stand on their hind legs. They were fast, immensely powerful, and could track his scent to the ends of the earth.

a cinematic photo of a gigantic wolf with thick grey fur and piercing yellow eyes traveling alone through a ravaged World War I battlefield at night with a full moon overhead casting an eerie glow on the destroyed trenches and discarded military equipment, the wolf's paws kicking up dust and debris as it moves, set against a dark sky with clouds illuminated by the moon, with a mix of mud, blood, and barbed wire scattered across the foreground, the overall mood is one of desolation and eerie silence, captured in a photography style reminiscent of 1915 with muted colors and a focus on textures and shadows.
