With their rifles were too far to reach without risking detection, Murphy grabbed his bayonet and threw it at the Kraut. To his surprise it was a clean strike, penetrating the officers back cleanly.

The officer paused, and pulled away calmly while licking the blood from his lips. That’s when Murphy spotted two elongated fangs as this man smiled.

“The main course has arrived,” the officer said with those words in an English that was heavily tainted by German.
