Man at War – Excerpt No. 216

“Where is he?” Murphy mumbled.

“Right behind you,” Marc said calmly.

Despite the soft voice almost every man turned around with weapons drawn. Marc remained where he was, letting the dull light visually identify him.

“Has anyone ever told you that you’re too quiet…Sir?” Murphy asked.

“My wife actually,” Marc replied in a neutral tone that somehow sold the line.

British soldiers standing in a dark underground mine, flares glowing in the background show their silhouettes, an officer approaches from behind. Clothing and style appropriate for 1915 for No Man Land at night.
