Man at War – Excerpt No. 253

“Don’t let their ages fool you,” Marc said. “Either one could handily best you in combat.”

Marc could see the doubt in his eyes, but the Warrant also knew to trust his judgement. Especially when it comes to the supernatural.

“You think they know?” Murphy asked.

“They suspected, given the lateness of the hour. Still, I think I passed their test.”

In a dimly lit World War I-era military hospital ward, a concerned female nurse sits at a wooden desk with her hands clasped, looking up worriedly at a stern male officer standing beside her. The officer, dressed in a formal dark military uniform with epaulets and a wide belt, gazes down at her intently. Papers lie on the desk in front of the nurse, while hospital beds and blurred figures of other personnel appear in the background. The image has a dramatic black-and-white cinematic style with a vintage aged photo border.
