Man at War – Excerpt No. 254

“You think they know?” Murphy asked.

“They suspected, given the lateness of the hour. Still, I think I passed their test.”

“Which is?”

“Hunters are creatures of faith,” Marc began. “Like clergy, monks, and sisters. Our kind reacts to faith, but older ones like me can counter our instincts.”

“You mean holding a cross works?”

In a dramatic black-and-white scene, a terrified man in a tuxedo with vampire fangs kneels in a doorway, mouth open in a shout or hiss, as a nun in traditional habit stands over him holding a large wooden cross like a weapon. The nun faces him with determination while the man cowers on the floor. The image has a vintage, aged photo border and a cinematic horror style.
