Man at War – Excerpt No. 265

Marc could tell that their search was thorough. There were tracks everywhere, with bodies overturned to check for signs of life. At least most of the bodies were in one piece.

Some of the men were torn to shreds. The qualities were animalistic and very much indicated a frenzied vampire. The moon being in the first quarter and the narrowness of the claw marks served to confirm his guess.

“They weren’t caught unprepared,” Marc said.

“Sir?” Murphy and Ryan both said.

British officers stand solemnly amid the grim aftermath of a World War I battle on a muddy battlefield. Numerous dead soldiers lie scattered across the ground around them, while other officers observe in the background under a dark, smoky sky. The black-and-white image has a vintage photographic border.
