Man at War – Excerpt No. 280

During the day Marc received a message from the French lines that preparations were complete. So, Marc briefed Murphy who would act in his stead during his absence. It took some convincing to get command to accept my plan.

It was his first time leaving their lines. The men saw leave infrequently, and his policies mirrored those of the other commanders along the line. He had no desire to receive oversight from higher command on his relaxed leave policies. It’s hard to hide once you get noticed.

His first step was the casualty clearing station. From there he met with Mackenzie who was nearly well enough to be transferred to hospital in England. After a full recovery he’ll be discharged and sent back home… minus a leg.
