Man at War – Excerpt No. 285

At the centre there was a silver object that resembled a doorway with rounded corners. This was nothing new for Marc, as vampire gates were relatively common. A device permitted him to travel instantly from Paris to New York.

However, this one differed in function and was freely provided by the Georgians. The condition was that this enigmatic group would get the first choice of those sent to this destination. Nothing curious about that

Once within ten feet of the gate, it began to glow. Marc understood that this gate solely responded to vampires. After a second, Marc had a view of the other side. This too was eerily familiar, at least for anyone who grew up around garrisons and fortifications.

Without hesitation he walked into the doorway and popped out the other end.

Black and white dramatic photograph of an officer in a long military greatcoat and peaked cap standing with his back to the viewer in the center of an old, tiled washroom. He faces a large, brightly glowing arched doorway that creates an eerie portal-like effect. Vintage sinks with exposed plumbing line both walls under dim overhead lighting, giving the scene a stark, mysterious, and slightly unsettling atmosphere
