She sat on the bed and aligned herself to have a better look at her mistress. Evelyn’s mask was slipping back into place, but she continued to struggle with making sense of all those thoughts and emotions.
“She told me her name,” Evelyn said. “Mary Anderson.”
Evelyn normally had this musical way of pronouncing words. It was as though she were singing all the time, but this time there was pain bleeding through, and an underlying wail.
The sight of tears bordering those emerald, green eyes, and that voice filled with lament nearly made her lose it. Grace needed to keep it together long enough to find out what happened.
