Man at War – Excerpt No. 317

Evelyn managed a weak smile and sniffled to further clear out her nose. Before she could move away a fresh wave of anguish washed over her.

She fell into Grace’s arms and wept. By this point even the younger vampire had lost her composure.

“Grace,” Evelyn said after a solid five minutes of crying. “I want to honour her request.”

“I know,” Grace said.

“I-I’m also starting to hate this place.”

At that moment, Grace had to admit she felt the same way.

Black-and-white vintage-style photograph with a torn-paper border, capturing an intense emotional moment of two women embracing tightly on a bed. Both are crying with contorted, sorrowful expressions—one with blonde waves comforting the other with dark curled hair—arms wrapped around each other in a moment of shared grief or distress.
