Man at War – Excerpt No. 334

“An ideal spot for an ambush,” Murphy whispered.

His second in command was in fact correct. Their sightlines were limited on every side because this was once a city. This was why Murphy whispered those words, because vampires had great hearing… and he doesn’t want to spark a panic.

He could tell that Murphy was not worried based on his resting heart rate. The stream of fog that came out with every breath was why Marc needed to be careful with winter stepping onto the stage.

Black and white photograph of two soldiers in early 20th-century military uniforms standing side-by-side with their backs to the viewer on a damaged balcony or rooftop. They are looking out over a war-torn town with destroyed buildings and thick plumes of black smoke rising in the distance. To their right is a prominent stone clock tower with a large clock face. The scene conveys a somber, strategic overlook of the destruction below. The image has a vintage, torn-edge photo border.
