“So that’s why you’re always a captain,” Sawyer remarked.
“Partly,” Marc replied. “I earned the rank of Captain.”
“Wasn’t that during the last big war?”
That was a veiled attempt at trying to gain more insight into Marc’s past. Sawyer never delved into the details normally, and that suited him just fine.
“A lot longer than that,” Marc said. “The keyword is earned.”
