Man at War – Excerpt No. 37

Even through the dark Evelyn could see the blonde look around before sighing. Given how the war was progressing, this would be their home for the next couple of years.

“Not exactly Versailles,” Grace said, remembering her times visiting Louis XVI and walking along the Grand Canal.

Evelyn squeezed the young one’s hand sensing this ennui was not about the decor, but the situation itself. This was not their first time in danger, but this time it was different. There’s an important element missing.

“I miss him too,” Evelyn said. “As for this room, we will make it our own. Besides, I’ve lived in worse and and imagine your stay at the Bastille was less than pleasant.”

“That’s… putting it mildly,” Grace said.
