Man at War – Excerpt No. 78

The creature turned its head towards the shooter and if not for the snipers, at least another man would have died. They must have changed positions to get a line of fire.

Instead the vampire’s cheek and teeth blew out from within. But even that did little more than slow it down. Left with one round, Murphy took a gamble.

He reached for his pouch and pulled out a pistol-like weapon with a large barrel. He slammed it shut, took aim and paused. When another shot from up on the ridge rang out and struck the vampire through the chest, Murphy fired.

a cinematic photo of a British Sergeant with a stern expression and worn leather pouch, pulling out a pistol with an unusually large barrel, set against a dark and misty Great War nocturnal backdrop, with the sergeant dressed in a mud-stained trench coat and helmet, the pistol and pouch worn and weathered, the scene illuminated only by faint moonlight and distant artillery flashes, captured in a dramatic and gritty photography style with deep shadows and strong contrast.
