The Spy Who Loved Me – Excerpt No. 36

“Welcome back Jack,” Louis said.

He opened his eyes and found Louis standing no more than a meter away with a data pad in her hands.

He had to blink a few times for her face to be little more than a blur. The first detail he noticed was the fact that she was now a brunette.

“New hair style?” Smythe said without really thinking. Then it dawned on, once he realised that he was in a metal and glass capsule. “Is it time to resurface?”

In a white sterile cryogenic hall, a man in a tight pale long-sleeve storage bodysuit steps barefoot from an open glass stasis tube, dark hair, eyes lowered. Facing him, a dirty-blonde woman in a white lab coat over pale clothes holds a dark data tablet. A small metallic cybernetic attachment sits at her left temple, hair pulled back. Further white stasis units recede behind her. The image is a square photograph with an aged cream border.
