“Fine,” Silver said. “You kill her then.”

“Why would I do that?” Clara said. “She’s not worth my time.”

“She meant enough to show up,” Silver said.

“In this getup?” Clara said while waving a hand down her black dress. “I planned on hoofing the night away on the dance floor, before indulging in their Turkish baths, or ending up at a petting party.”

“More like bend over and take it like a whore,” Silver hissed.

“Why?” Clara asked. “Evelyn is more than enough for me.”

“She is beneath you,” Silver said.

“Beneath, on top, against a wall, sitting on my face,” Clara said. “Makes no difference—”
