The Van Helsing Impetus – Excerpt No. 40

Hours later Clara woke with a start. While sleep was important to her sanity, most hunters had been conditioned to sleep lightly. It was a bit like sleeping at a hotel or at a friend’s and hearing those stray sounds they were not accustomed to. Sleep was always poor for the first couple of days.

The sound that woke her was faint, and not of a mechanical origin. Clara placed a hand on the shotgun and tugged on her earbuds until they popped out. Whatever this was, it originated from above.
