The Van Helsing Impetus – Excerpt No. 94

“I’m hurt,” Evelyn said before pouting. “I just wanted to watch.”

“If that were true,” Clara countered. “You would have just tapped into the camera feeds. This place is so heavily bugged that you’d need to go down to the studs to find them all.”

There was a pause, so Clara made use of the opportunity to look through her pieces. Many of the pieces appeared to be, since they needed to be convincing, but were clever fakes. Her pearl earrings were clip-on and could be crushed to extract holy water. Serve a vampire a drink laced with this stuff and watch them smoke.

As a human she used to bathe in holy water. Any hunter worth their salt knew how to make their own, and bathing in it shielded them against the impure. As a fallen angel, Clara had no such concerns. My blood is like acid to one of them.

“You’re right,” Evelyn said. “We’ve used that suit when we needed leverage over someone.”

“A minute of fun, followed by a lifetime of regret?” Clara confirmed.

Oui, exactly,” Evelyn replied. “Information is power.”
