Man of War – Excerpt No. 101

A wry smile crept across both their lips. With his uncle, there was something more to it. It’s like I was reading his mind

There came the sound of steps approaching from behind, and Marc’s eyes widened. He was about to bolt, but his uncle shook his head and Marc complied.

“I sent for someone as soon as I arrived,” René said. 

That explained the delay in reaching the garden. This also implied that his uncle would reveal what he had in mind. A quiet victory that denied my father any satisfaction.

“That was fast, Maternien,” René said.
