Man of War – Excerpt No. 151

“Do you enjoy humiliating  women, Adjudant?” 

The tone of Marc’s voice had changed, it was cold as ice and painfully formal. The smiles faded from most of the soldiers within earshot and both his sergeant’s gulped. In addition to tensing his jaw, this was a sign that Marc was on the cusp of losing his composure. 

Years of discipline and self-control ensured he never lost his temper like he would as a child. However, there were ways of taking out one’s frustrations while appearing perfectly calm.

An officer is staring down at a soldier fuming. They are both seated at a table at a tavern. Background and clothing appropriate to 16th Century France.
