Man of War – Excerpt No. 152

Marc was fuming and wanted his men to be aware of that. However his Adjutant had nerves of steel and would not be swayed. You have to respect the man for that.

“Apologies, mon Lieutenant,” Cornay replied. “I didn’t expect my voice to carry. We simply wanted to surprise you.”

The rest could be inferred, to a point. The men must have arranged something for him, and Beatriz was not meant to be within earshot when it was announced. Still, what did any of those have to do with their barmaid? Had she been flirting with me?

An officer is speaking with a beautiful barmaid while soldiers fill the room. Background and clothing appropriate to 16th Century France.
