Man of War – Excerpt No. 85

He shook his head and tensed his jaw to steel his resolve. Ultimately, while the outside was charred, plenty of the meat was edible. He took a step towards the encampment. I suppose it’s not all

The wet rocks caused him to slip and fall backwards into the water. His sight was momentarily covered in a haze of silt and bubbles, but he soon breached the surface. 

“Wait…” Marc said  “Where—”

About twenty-five yards downstream there was his meal bobbing back and down on the stick. He rolled his eyes towards the sky as though waiting for God to laugh and slapped the water. While it had no effect, the stinging pain shook his mind out of the self-pity that would have swallowed him whole.
