The Van Helsing Conjecture – Excerpt No. 144

After a quick nod, the tugging sensation returned with a vengeance. In the span of a heartbeat a copy of Clara stood a foot apart, who then took the visual traits of the goddess.

“I’ll never get used to this,” Clara said.

“I never did,” Silver said as her sisters groaned.

“Comforting…”

A thought crept in to Clara’s mind

“Wait… Why did I feel it this time?”

There was a brief pause before Silver answered, “I initiated the process.”

“How About this? Unless it’s an emergency… I’ll initiate the process…”

“A perfectly reasonable request.”

A high-contrast, cinematic photograph of a photo-realistic woman of European descent, featuring a haunting clone of herself emerging from her body, as if trying to claw her way out. The original woman's face is contorted in a mix of fear and desperation, her piercing blue eyes wide with terror, her smooth, fair skin pale and clammy. The clone's face is a mirror image, yet twisted in a grotesque, inhuman grimace, its skin deathly pale and decaying. The background is a dark, muted gray, with subtle, gritty textures evoking a sense of unease and foreboding. The lighting is dramatic, with harsh shadows casting an eerie glow on the women's faces and bodies. The overall mood is one of psychological horror, evoking a sense of desperation and claustrophobia.
