The Van Helsing Conjecture – Excerpt No. 145

Silver turned around in place several times before stopping… I wonder if she’s dizzy or if there was something of note

Clara aligned herself to face that direction. At first there was nothing, but there came a flash. As though it was a bolt of lightning, Clara began to count.

One

There was nothing. Not even the sound of insects or birds.

Two

The silence was deafening.

Three

There came another flash. Clara started counting down from one again and on the count of three the flash returned.

“Like a beacon?” Clara said.

“Very good, Clara,” Silver said. “What else did you notice?”

Photo-realistic image of a woman of European in hiking gear descent facing away from the camera. In the distance there are the ruins of an old cathedral and at the center a glowing beacon that resembles lightening starting from the surface.
