The Van Helsing Conjecture – Excerpt No. 170

“It didn’t last long,” Clara mused.

She remembered her mother being so tall as a child. By the way the dress fit on Clara, her mother must have been at least a half-a-head shorter than Clara.

“I wonder if she was saving it for one of us?”

Instead, she died and took her surprise to her grave. The Grey sisters never saw each other again in life… I still don’t know what happened to Maria

“If I was my regular weight this dress would fit me like a glove,” Clara said while looking at her reflections in the broken mirror. “I don’t mind showing off my knees…”

Photograph of a woman with brown hair and grey eyes wearing a tattered slip pulling, pressing an old dress against her chest to see how it would fit, finds that it's too short. Scene and clothing appropriate for a 1915 Canadian coastal mining town home.
