The Van Helsing Conjecture – Excerpt No. 248

“Fuck me,” Julia said before hopping off the edge.

There came a thump and the cables wobbled.

“I’m okay,” Julia said.

Evelyn grabbed Clara and dropped as well. The impact of both women hitting the platform caused everything to shake violently. It was enough for Julia’s eyes to widen while her fingers went white from holding onto the railing.

If not for the vampire’s strength and balance they might have fallen off entirely. But Evelyn managed to keep Clara steady, even as the angel’s legs wobbled.

“Steady, ma chère,” Evelyn said. “I got you.”

A dramatic, high-contrast cinematic photograph of three women, varying in age and ethnicity, with concerned expressions, clinging to each other as a wobbly window cleaning platform sways precariously outside a sleek, modern high-rise building, set against a vibrant, warm orange fog that envelops the urban landscape, obscuring the sun, with the fog's misty tendrils creeping into the frame, adding to the sense of tension and unease, the women's clothing and hair disheveled by the wind, their skin tones ranging from porcelain to caramel, with defined facial features and subtle makeup, as they struggle to maintain their balance, their eyes fixed on the platform's fragile cables, with the cityscape's steel and concrete giants looming in the background, softened by the fog's eerie glow.
