The Van Helsing Conjecture – Excerpt No. 33

Clara realised they were in Evelyn’s room. There was always the odour of paint hanging in the air, as did vanilla, and since returning from the sacred hunting grounds, sex. Making love is more like it

She may not have been around as long as Evelyn had been, but she had plenty of sexual partners, both men and women. The Roaring Twenties was more than flappers and fashion, they had petting parties, and slang related to gauge the interests and consent of a potential tryst… Best time of my life

But that was just barneymugging… Hunters were meant to use sex to gain intelligence, lure in targets, or manipulate people to further a mission. While Clara often did it for fun, it never approached the emotions and tenderness Evelyn had shown her. That’s the problem

A dreamlike and vivid cinematic photograph set in the roaring twenties, United States, capturing the essence of a wild and clandestine speakeasy party, where the thrill of forbidden pleasure permeates the air. The scene is illuminated by the soft glow of candles, ornate chandeliers, and dimly lit cigarette embers, casting a warm, golden light on the revelers. Men and women, adorned in lavish attire, flaunt their allure, some with faces flushed, others with lips curled into sly smiles, as they surrender to the ecstasy of the night. The atmosphere is thick with smoke, wafting tendrils of which dance around the figures, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. In the midst of this hedonistic spectacle, a tantalizing sense of liberation prevails, as if the partygoers have momentarily escaped the constraints of society. Every detail, from the intricate beading on the flapper dresses to the delicate curls of cigarette smoke, is photorealistically rendered, with a subtle film grain effect that imbues the image with a sense of nostalgia and timelessness.
