“I hear you’re a woman now,” Julia teased.

Clara smirked, because that smart assed banter was the Julia she knew. The werewolf had a way of getting under the skin of another, very much like she did.

“How did—(you find out?)” Clara blurted out.

The answer was obvious, Evelyn must have called Julia to let her know. The reasons for which were not necessarily obvious. That is until the phone vibrated in her hand.

She unlocked her phone and saw the notification.

Evelyn: I thought you could use the distraction. Gives you a good reason to open up with Julia. I know you’ve been worried about her. 😘

“Evelyn…” Clara said.

A cinematically lit, high-contrast, photo-realistic image of a young, casually dressed brunette woman with a gentle, warm smile, her dark brown hair falling down her back, and large, majestic black feathered wings sprouting from her shoulder blades, gently rustling in the soft light, as she sits atop a worn, cream-colored hotel bed, surrounded by crumpled sheets and a few scattered clothes, lost in the glow of her silver-framed smartphone, her bright hazel eyes fixed on the screen, her smooth, olive-toned skin radiant in the soft, golden light, the nondescript hotel room's beige walls and generic artwork blurred in the background, emphasizing her central, ethereal presence.
