The Van Helsing Conjecture – Excerpt No. 93

“You’ll have to forgive me,” Clara said. “There’s only one course tonight.”

Evelyn giggled before saying, “As long as you’re dessert.”

Without a word she transferred the plates to the tables. One that was decidedly out of place. It looked to be a combination of pate, gravy, with a cookie crumble mixed in.

That dish really got Evelyn’s attention, and even curled her nose until the scent from her own dish overpowered it.

“Okay. Who have you invited?” Evelyn asked, tiring of being kept in the dark.

a cinematic, high-contrast photograph of a formal white plate, centered and framed to emphasize the composition, featuring a towering structure of two stacked rounds of pate, cleverly arranged to resemble a layer birthday cake, generously covered in a rich, dark brown gravy that glistens with tiny droplets, and topped with a sprinkle of cat treats in varying shapes and colors, set against a muted, monochromatic background that draws the viewer's attention to the culinary masterpiece, with a shallow depth of field to blur the edges and accentuate the textures and details of the dish, capturing the warm, inviting essence of a luxurious supper.
